This concept began as an interpolatory visual idea. Each of the five burroughs were represented using their respective geographical boundary and spelled-out name. In this case, Brooklyn’s boundaries create difficult compositional circumstances for the comprehension of something which would ideally be read linearly.
The forming of a word within the given amount of space is a sensitive exercise where each letter has an inverse relationship with another. In extracting these letters from their compacted state and redisplaying them linearly, there is the spatial residue left on them indicating their relationships to surrounding letters and to the larger whole. An obvious analog for this sequence was the puzzle, which could possibly manifest itself in physical form.
